Rahu & Ketu: Abuse & Addiction
TW: drug overdose, death, suicide, abuse, childhood abuse
Nodal influence can be very destabilising and intoxicating. They're opposites but as they say the extremes of anything is a meeting point for it's opposite, so Rahu & Ketu share many similarities.
Rahu & Ketu are both shadow planets, Rahu is the head whereas Ketu is the tail. This in itself reveals much about the nature of the two. Rahu is over immersed in the world whereas Ketu is completely cut off from it.
When I say Rahu is over immersed/over stimulated, I don't mean they're profoundly connected to reality, I mean the opposite, they're deeply immersed in Maya/illusion that they often have no sense of reality. Rahu is the head, imagine if you lived in your head all the time? You'd be in your own la la land, disconnected from what is actually happening around you. This is Rahu energy. Without your body, you cannot use your senses, you cannot fully feel alive or experience reality. Rahu being the head means you're cut off from what is "real". You only live in your head and what happens in your head is very subjective and completely illusory.
They are so deeply immersed in an illusory world. This can manifest as substance addiction, video gaming, fame, material success, internet addiction, overly obsessed with "binging" content, maladaptive daydreaming etc, any experience that disconnects you from what is "real" and immerses you in something that feels very real but isn't real. Both Rahu and Ketu people suffer from addiction, Claire had mentioned that Nodal influence can make someone prone to addiction but why Rahu and Ketu are addicted tend to be very different. Rahu is overstimulated, they always need more of everything. There are people who spend 10 hours a day just watching YouTube videos or IG reels or whatever, that's because they need that much stimulation, since they live in their heads. Their minds need that kind of fodder to thrive off of. Once you start using any kind of substance, your brain builds a tolerance for it and you have to start using higher and higher doses to get the same high. When a Rahu native accumulates wealth, they start indulging in it but nothing is ever enough. They never feel "full", they don't have that fuse in their brain that flares up and says "this is enough". Basically they never know when to stop, they just keep going and going and going with anything they immerse themselves in. People play video games for 3-4 days straight without leaving their game set up. They don't ever feel satisfied. This is scary because "feeling full" is our brain's way of asking us to stop. Without that mechanism, we would overindulge and overdo everything which is what these natives do.
This is also why relationships are so tricky for Nodal people. They give too much and immerse themselves to the point where it's detrimental to the relationship. You either feel like you're losing part of yourself to it or the other person feels like you're consuming their energy too much (which makes them feel drained). Moderation does not exist for Nodal people either they're completely detached or they're completely obsessed.
Its similar to Jupiter energy in the sense that Jupiter is also very expansive and has the ability to immerse itself in everything and give so much but Jupiter has other principles that firmly ground it in reality as it is not a shadow planet like Rahu. It is not suspended in an illusion, Jupiter natives give so much or do so much because they have the internal space to do so, not out of a tendency to immerse themselves in Maya/illusion. Jupiter is the opposite, they see through Maya and find it hard to consciously part take in it.
Taylor Swift- Ardra Moon
She works harder than anybody in the biz. Her concerts are like 3 hours long and she does like 40-50 shows on average. She's ALWAYS doing THE most. She releases a new album every 2 years or so, has other projects etc this is a positive manifestation of Rahu energy because it allows you to be deeply immersed in your craft and your world but it also means you live in a bubble and you are cut off from "real life".
Ketu is the tail, it is cut off from reality and feels profoundly disconnected to reality. It is hard for these natives to feel like they relate to anything. This is why Ketuvians struggle with addiction. They use substances because they want to feel something, want to feel tethered, want to feel connected. They have to use higher doses because it helps them feel heightened emotions when they usually don't feel anything at all.
Ketu is connected to spirituality because natives who feel disconnected from the real world to this extent find it easier to immerse themselves in the occult and in esoterica. It is more abstract and requires you to think non-logically, i.e, experientially, but this is something Ketuvians have a hard time with, they themselves feel very "abstract" or like they aren't real or don't exist, so while they're intrinsically drawn to the esoteric, they feel untethered/ungrounded by immersing themselves in it too much. They need something they can cling to, they need something solid that they can attach themselves to.
All Rahuvian nakshatras belong to the Shudra caste, specifically the Butcher caste, this is very interesting because Shudra is the lowest caste (Mleccha is "outcaste" which means it exists outside the system entirely), to be Rahuvian means to operate on the lowest level. Butchers have to slaughter meat to make a living, that is unpleasant and brutal work, and only if they are disconnected from it can they keep doing it. They cannot be too focused on what they actually do because then it will be hard for them to do their tasks. They're not repulsed by it because they're disconnected from it.
2/3 Ketuvian naks are also Shudra caste whereas Ashwini is the only Ketu nak that is upper caste as it is a Vaishya nak.
(table by me hehe)
Rahuvian naks are found in all 3 ganas (Swati is deva gana, Ardra is manushya gana, Shatabhisha is rakshasa gana)
2/3 Ketuvian naks are Rakshasa gana (Mula, Magha) with only Ashwini being a Deva gana nak
I feel like Ketuvians are always made to feel like the bad guy / people villainize them a lot. They're the "ugly ducklings" who have to "win" approval as they're never accepted for who they are.
Rahu needs to immerse itself in something because its sensory perception is limited and they need to really indulge to grasp what is "real". Its very common for people with heavy Rahuvian or Rahu in a malefic placement to experience hallucinations or feel like their grip on reality is very thin.
Ketu has nothing perceive with at all. Its like being completely lost in the shadows or the dark. There's no perception taking place at all, it makes the natives inwardly drawn because its truly hard for them to absorb from their surroundings unlike Rahu which absorbs easily and fully. Rahu is over immersed whereas Ketu lacks immersion at all.
Lets look at the yoni animals of Rahu & Ketu naks respectively
Rahu: Ardra -dog yoni, Shatabhisha- horse yoni, Swati-buffalo yoni
Ketu: Magha-rat yoni, Mula- dog yoni, Ashwini-horse yoni
one common theme is that all these animals are abused, mistreated and exploited
(rats are the go to animal for lab testing, dogs are valued for their loyalty and are at the mercy of their owners, horses are made to endure so much labour, buffalos are farm animals)
all of these animals are also associated with dirt/filth in some way or another which is perhaps why people with Nodal influence often have a dishevelled appearance. They're bad at taking care of themselves.
Both horse yoni & dog yoni are divided among Rahu & Ketu naks whereas the yoni consort for Swati is Hasta (Moon ruled) and Magha is Purvaphalguni (Venus ruled).
Horses are very strong but very fragile animals. They start walking almost immediately after birth, they sleep standing up but they require a lot of attention and care as their health tends to be very fragile. Even though horses are associated with working hard, its not exactly innately part of their nature, it's just that they've been domesticated into being that way. It represents a very powerful active energy, as horses can be highly temperamental and unpredictable.
Dog yoni on the other hand, makes a person very needy and eager to please others. Dogs depend on the affection of their owners and without it they feel unhappy. Both these nakshatras have obsessive tendencies and a people pleasing nature. They're also two nakshatras who endure abuse the most.
I've noticed that a lot of people tend to have both nodes in their chart and I wonder what its like to house such contradictions. On one hand you're extremely involved, on the other, you're supremely detached.
The entertainment industry is one where people with Nodal influence really thrive but also often, self-destruct themselves. Its immensely hard to balance these energies since Rahu heightens whatever is in it, the way Jupiter expands whatever it touches. Both planets make you feel manic but in different ways.
Addiction is the result of an overactive nervous system and a coping mechanism. Ketu feels cut off from society/life/the world so in order to feel connected, it over indulges. Rahu needs something that will help them fully lose themselves, idk if I'm explaining it properly but you know how the best movies you've watched are the ones where you feel like you were in them experiencing those things with the characters? Its like that
There is an unhappy pattern of Rahu & Ketu influenced people being abused, I have especially noted this among child actors but also others.
Taylor Momsen- Swati Moon
Her parents signed her up with Ford Modeling when she was just 2 years old. "No 2-year-old wants to be working, but I had no choice. My whole life, I was in and out of school. I didn't have friends. I was working constantly and I didn't have a real life."
This theme of not experiencing "real life" or reality is very prominent in the lives of Rahuvian and Ketuvian people. It can be interpreted in many ways according to the context but there is always a sense of being deprived of what was "normal" or "real" as a result of which these natives had to live in their imagination or indulge in other things.
Like the child star who worked their whole life playing other people (acting is very Rahuvian) or the loner kid who spends all their time immersed in movies or video games because that feels more "real" to them.
Fame is also an inherently Rahuvian experience bc it's an illusion & a prison.
Judy Garland- Ardra Rising, Mula Moon
She was emotionally abused and controlled by her mother who got her addicted to drugs by the time she was a teenager. She was also sexually abused by the studio executives she worked with. Judy had a very tough life.
Aaron Carter, Ardra Moon, Mula Rising
Aaron Carter claimed that as a teen musician, his family spent $500 million of his money on 15 houses and 30 cars. He claimed that when his parents sold the houses, he didn't get a cut of the profits. He also alleged that his dad shot a .44 magnum near his ear — which resulted in him going 70% deaf in one ear — to force him into signing a $256,000 check.
Being heavily tattooed (more examples at the end of this post) is also a very Nodal thing to do.
He unfortunately passed away in 2022 from an accidental drug overdose. This is also a very unfortunate pattern among Nodal celebrities.
Macaulay Culkin- Shatabhisha Moon, Magha Sun & Mercury
Macaulay Culkin's father Kit managed him during his childhood career. Macaulay has shared that his father was controlling and had him on a very busy filming schedule in the early '90s. He added his father made him stay up every night to study the lines he would have to say the next day. Macaulay asserted that his father was "such a crazy person" that he forced him to do SNL without cue cards when he hosted the show at 11 years old. Macaulay has explained that he felt his father was jealous of him because “everything he tried to do in his life I excelled at before I was 10 years old.”When Macaulay stopped acting after his 1994 movie Richie Rich, he told his parents, “I’m done, guys — hope you all made your money because there is no more coming from me.”His parents were never married and after he stopped acting, his mother filed for custody. Macaulay ended up taking his parents to court to stop them from controlling his $17 million in earnings. Since then, he and his father have been estranged.
I feel like the "child star gone wild" is a trope meant specifically for Nodal people
Keke Palmer, Magha Sun & Mercury, Mula Moon
Palmer shared on IG:
"Due to traveling and scheduling both of my parents had to stop working to support my career and be present for my three siblings, leaving me with the financial responsibility around age 12. Which I took great pride in because I knew what it would do for generations to come and a huge blessing that I could even help out. However it caused me a lot of pain because I essentially had to abandon my childhood feelings and desires, becoming like a parentalized child, which is something some of you can probably relate to in your own way. This was something that I have had to continuously work through because I am grateful but often feel like.. I missed “IT”. Life can be such a tragic comedy because how funny is it.. that now becoming an actual parent, and the responsibility I’ve always carried being more valid now than ever, has in fact given me the chance to feel what it’s like to be a kid again, I get a chance to explore a lot of the things I missed out on with my son, His freedom is like, the most priceless gift to me. He is already teaching me so much, it’s like he awakened the little me inside that I thought was long gone."
Ketu dominance = being your own parent, being neglected by your family or having to be your parent's parent.
Michael Jackson, Magha Sun & Mercury, Shatabhisha Rising
From a young age Jackson was physically and mentally abused by his father, enduring incessant rehearsals, whippings and name-calling. Jackson's abuse as a child affected him throughout his grown life. reading about the lives of the Jackson siblings and how severely they were all abused is very perspective altering and sad
Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen, Magha Moon, Ashlesha Rising (inc the ashlesha placement bc its another nak often subject to control and abuse)
“With what we were doing in business when we were younger, I don’t think it ever felt like we were actresses,” Mary-Kate “Because we spend so much more of our time not in front of the cameras, building a brand. Ashley agreed, saying: “I always looked at myself, even as a kid, as a business woman.” Mary-Kate said she wouldn't wish her childhood on anyone, and said she felt like a "monkey performer."
they quit acting in the mid 2000s and rarely make public appearances and god only knows what they endured in the business bc neither of them will talk about it.
Sarah Michelle Geller, Ashwini Sun conjunct Ketu, Shatabhisha Moon
Sarah herself enjoyed the path she'd ended up on, she has rules in place for her own daughter. Recalling the "industry abuses" she experienced as a teenager in Hollywood, she said she hoped she'd "set up a safety net for these actors that I didn't have," but that she and husband Freddie Prinze Jr. have "rules in place" that mean daughter Charlotte "can't be in front of a camera until she graduates high school."
Kylie Jenner, Swati Moon
Kylie started appearing on her family's reality show when she was 10
In 2016, she told her sister Kim in an episode of the show: "I feel like I've had anxiety for too long. I feel too much, I care too much, I read too much. Some people are born for this life and some people aren’t. I just know I’m not supposed to be famous.” in an old IG post she said: "I’m proud of myself, my heart, and my strength. Growing up in the light with a million eyes on you just isn’t normal. I’ve lost friends along the way and I’ve lost myself too sometimes. My first tattoo was 'sanity' to remind myself everyday to keep it. I’ve struggled with anxiety my whole young adult life." "I know I don't want to be famous forever. There's gonna be a time where I feel comfortable, I'm at a good place in my life, and I just stop."
Natalie Wood, Ashwini Moon
The late Natalie Wood was forced into acting by her mother, Maria, who missed her chance to become a performer and instead focussed her efforts on pushing her daughters to stardom.
While young Natalie had a natural talent for performing, it seemed that her reason for going to movie sets was more to please her mother than to quench any desire of her own.
Bella Thorne, Mula Moon
"I was sexually abused and physically growing up from the day I can remember till I was 14. When I finally had the courage to lock my door at night and sit by it. All damn night." She has also stated that she only started acting as a child to support her family.
Drew Barrymore, Shatabhisha Sun
Drew's mother took her to clubs and allowed her access to drugs and alcohol, ultimately leading to her institutionalization at the age of 13, and emancipating herself at 14. Drew described fame at such a young age as "a recipe for disaster."
Edith Piaf, Mula Sun & Mercury, Magha Mars
Born in Paris practically on the streets, she struggled from day one, the daughter of street performers. The mother, a singer, eventually abandoned both Edith and her father for a solo career. Piaf spent her youth entertaining passers-by, receiving little formal education in the process. She often accompanied her father's acrobat street act with her singing and at various times was forced to live with various relatives, in alleys or in cheap hotels. An aborted love affair left her with a baby girl at age 17, but little Marcelle died of meningitis at 2 years old. Devastated, Piaf returned to the streets she knew, now performing solo. Her fortunes finally changed when an impresario, Louis Leplee, mesmerized by what he heard, offered the starving but talented urchin a contract. He alone was responsible for taking her off the streets at age 20 and changing her name from Edith Gassion to "La Mome Piaf" (or "Kid Sparrow"). Piaf grew in status entertaining in elegant cafés and cabarets and became a singing sensation amid the chic French society with her throbbing vocals and raw, emotional power. From 1936, Piaf recorded many albums and eventually became one of the highest paid stars in the world.
Later in life she became an addict and died in poverty at the age of 47.
Brittany Murphy, Swati Moon & Venus
she was a child star who was managed by her controlling mom. she battled with eating disorders and drug addiction. rip britt.
Justin Bieber, Shatabhisha Sun conjunct Saturn
Justin shot to fame at a very young age and was severely exploited by his management/everybody around him
Now here are some heavily tatted celebs and their placements
L to R
Rihanna- Shatabhisha Sun
Paris Jackson- Ardra Moon
Cheryl Cole- Ardra Sun & Mars, Shatabhisha Moon
Demi Lovato- Magha Sun
Jungkook- Magha Moon, Mula Rising
Ruby Rose- Swati Rising
Machine Gun Kelly- Ashwini Sun
The 27 club refers to a phenomenon where several musicians have died by age 27, many from an overdose. Unfortunately many of them have Nodal influence.
Brian Jones- Shatabhisha Sun
Jimi Hendrix- Mula Rising
Amy Winehouse- Mula Moon
Kurt Cobain- Shatabhisha Sun, Ardra Moon,
Janis Joplin- Ardra Moon, Mula Mars, Asc conjunct Ketu (in Dhanishta)
Jim Morrison- Ketu conjunct Rising (in Shravana)
several other celebrities who have died from overdoses also tend to have prominent Nodal influence
John Belushi- Mula Rising
Phillip Seymour Hoffman- Mercury in Ardra 2h, Mars conjunct Ketu in Swati
Prince- Shatabhisha Moon, Ketu in Ashwini
Whitney Houston- Shatabhisha Rising
River Phoenix- Magha Sun conjunct Ketu, Swati Ascendant conjunct Jupiter
Elvis Presley- Shatabhisha Moon
Margaux Hemingway- Ashwini Rising
Nodal planets are shadow planets and it can be very difficult for these natives to manage this energy as it is energy without a source, Rahu & Ketu don't have physical form or existence, that is a lot of uncontrolled energy to possess within yourself. Many people turn to spirituality and other esoteric sources and good Rahu & Ketu influence is vital and necessary to study or gain access to gnosis, study astrology or other occult matters but when this energy is imbalanced in their chart, these natives are more prone to self-destruction than any other planetary dominance simply because the unbridled energy is impossible to contain and requires some kind of coping mechanism. I have dated several Nodal men and they all dealt with varying degrees of addiction to varying substances and they all spoke about "wanting to feel more real" or how "nothing feels solid". I will try to focus on the positive manifestations of the Nodes on a future post.
thanks for reading<333

Depeche Mode - Condemnation / finding video's location "near God"
It was only 3 days after the Memento Mori concert in March, when I learned that Condemnation video was made in Hungary, not far from Budapest, near Göd, in a small village's border, Göd-Újtelep. When I wrote about it to @mijamija1234, she suggested that what if I visited its location? I liked the idea, I've started to make a research. Later I found some colored photos on Göd-Újtelep's website (under this text) and I posted them with words "Condemnation’s video was made near Göd". @mftm1987's reblog tag was hilarious: #well sure it was made near god. I felt love with the concept, so this is my "project's" name: Near God.
The only screenshot from the video (1st pic above) that I can use for finding the location is not very helpful, considering that it happened more than 30 years ago. 31 exactly. In 28th of July, 1993 the band and Corbijn went "into the f---ing woods" early in the morning after the day of they Devotional Tour concert in Budapest. Dave talked about it the gig's night in NME, while Gavin Martin was making his long interview:
I won’t even sleep tonight. I’ve got to get up and go and do some… I’ve got to go off with (Anton) Corbijn into the f---ing woods and do the ‘Condemnation’ bit. But, really, I have fun with doing that. It’s just the eight o’clock morning, you gotta get over it.
I quoted from this article first time here, my updated daves-first-tattoo post (scroll to the middle). Another source, Daryl Bamonte, Devotional Tour Diary, Bong magazine, 1994:
It was a long trek from Belgium yesterday, and we had to drive out into the Hungarian countryside today for Anton to shoot the “CONDEMNATION” video. Dave seemed to spend most of the day being dragged around by Sam and Hildia. He wasn’t complaining though. It could have been the other way round…
Near God
It's not easy to find a DM video's location (except Strangelove), Corbijn preferred countryside for his videos and the nature mostly in different countries in Europe (e.g. Belgium, France, Switzerland, Portugal, Scotland) or in the U.S. Hungary is famous for its "puszta", which is similar to prairie. Before the single's releasing he could shoot the clip during the tour. They stayed 3 days in Hungary, I read somewhere that Corbijn choosed Göd's area for the reason being very close to the capital. On imdb.com it is simply Göd.
I was searching for those dirt roads from the screenshot with the Google relief map, impossible task. 31 years. I googled many times a day if I got some new inspiration, suddenly I found a person on facebook who commented Göd's page' photo of the day: she was there in her 14 years, "half of Göd was there". I wrote to her, 3 days later she answered that she would help. Wow.
We met today and spent only 40 minutes together. She and her husband took me from the railwaystation on a truck to the location that she remembered - and of course that become famous in the village. She told me the short story: "My friend's sister was a big fan. We didn't have phones that time, someone brought the news by bike, no one believed that. Later many cars went to the place with 50-80 fans. We were hanging on the fence, like the children in the video. There were huge reflectors, the shooting took until the evening. Now there is a big battery factory in the fields."
When we arrived, we walked to a small road but it didn't resemble to the video's for the first sight. In fact it is a huge field with woods around, at the end of the road there was the factory, "It was built on that hill on the picture" she told. She was sure, so we took some funny photos with the printed screenshot (at the background with their truck), I wanted to walk more to find a better view but it was a very hot Summar day and my guide didn't have much time. To the right on this map I marked the point where we took the photos:
I think the trip was worth it. All this area from the village to the woods down was the location of the video making. 31 years later the fence with the small cabin and the sunflower field disappeared but there still have straw bales, dirt roads and habitants who remember.
The single released 6 weeks later, on 13 September 2013. Although MTV played the clip on time, its DVD version released much later in 2002 on Depeche Mode - Videos 86>98+ (I ordered the very last piece of it from Antal). This DVD originally released in 1999 but without the clip, you can find a live version instead of (I have the 2000 edition), because - it is said - Corbijn wasn't quite satisfied with the final result, the band seemed too tired in the video, especially Dave.
I love this song. Not my favourite, but it's in my DM top 20. One of its reasons that the video was shooted in Hungary and Dave loves it. He has frequently mentioned Condemnation as one of his favourite songs. In this interview from 2006 you can hear directly from him at 00:37. As fandom.com wrote, Dave still gets goosebumps when he recalls recording the song:
I immediately knew the song. It wasn't necessarily completely accurate to the way Martin wrote the melody line or the phrasing or the timing. I just sang it, and [after] I sang it, the tape stopped rolling and it went on quiet. I've got my headphones on and I hear [producer] Flood's voice go, 'Yeah, I mean, you could do another one. But I think we got it.' / 2021, Exclaim!
Well, at Memento Mori Tour they sang to us twice in Budapest, in 28 July, 2023 (yes, this day <3) together with 50000 people and in 26 March, 2024 to 16000 happy fans. Honestly, I like Waiting For The Night much better, I really wanted to hear it live, I hoped that they don't sing the same song at the same city as first encore duett, Condemnation is difficult to sing, they've sung Waiting For much often at this tour... but I was wrong. I was confused with my feelings, I was disappointed. I was looking for the answers of they decision, and later I understood that somehow Hungary might mean Condemnation to them. They gifted us with Dave's favourite song. Twice.

hey scorpy! ive been following you for a while now and love your streams :) I'm in video production stuff and love hearing about set filming kinda stuff youve done! did you go to high school/college for it? did u do any tv production stuff in school? i know you mentioned youd go to local indie wrestling shows and just take pictures with your film camera, were/are you ever approached by local places for a paid position for that kinda stuff, or is it just something you really like to do?
i had 0 professional or academic experience with video stuff until i went to uni. all my video editing experience was from making dumb videos from my mid teens to early 20s in my free time
a lot of the video/photo work i still do is unpaid or underpaid, because it's something i do on the side for fun and not for money. i would just show up to concerts or wrestling shows with gear and film, or dm them before the show asking for access to the show in exchange for free work, or send like 40 emails to a bunch of different people asking to shoot lol. for me it's just a way to capture something cool for something i'm interested in and i don't really care about making money off of it. obviously if disney hit me up id be like show me the cash but i mostly work with small musicians or local promotions so its not that important. also it tends to give me free access to festivals & events so i just consider that the payment. sometimes i'll get contacted to do video promo/marketing work for a company and theyre willing to pay and i'll do it, but 90% of the time i'm doing stuff for cheap or free because i want to, so it makes sense that i be the one to reach out
i'd say anyone wanting to get into doing this stuff for fun, just bother people. whenever i get the chance to shoot a festival set it's because i've sent 50 emails to different artists and dmed a bunch of people (you dont need a platform either, i was doing this when i had 100 followers, your work will speak to the right people). just spam. out of the 50 you might get 1 maybe, a bunch of nos and mostly no responses, but of those maybes and nos if they took the time to reply that means they saw your stuff and considered it, which is better than nothing, and at the cost of sending a bunch of emails/dms thats a pretty good deal. costs u nothing

HAPPY 70th BIRTHDAY GEDDY!!!!
(meme credit to u/rtphokie on reddit)
OH, AND WHAT’S THAT?!?! IT’S ALSO THE 49th ANNIVERSARY OF NEIL PEART JOINING RUSH?!?!
In order to celebrate these wondrous occasions, I have compiled 70 reasons why I love Rush (especially Geddy):
70. They don't have any unlistenable albums. I can put on any Rush album and at the very least enjoy it, which is saying a lot!
69. ANDDDD they have 19 studio albums!!! 167 songs!!!
68. Alex's iconic Hall of Fame induction speech.
67. The movie I Love You, Man. The main plot of that is just two guys geeking out about Rush and then going to see them in concert.
66. The Bb5 in "Cygnus X-1 Book 1: The Voyage". For the record, the other famous Bb5 sung by a male singer in rock is the high note in "Bohemian Rhapsody", sung by Roger Taylor.
65. Geddy's range in general. Say what you will about his voice, but he had range.
64. Their pre-concert videos.
63. "Hey baby it's 7:45 and I need to go to bed soon, let's fuck"- In the Mood. The debut album was something else, man.
62. They wrote songs during soundcheck when they were on tour. This includes songs like "Tom Sawyer" and "Chemistry".
61. They went to a Yes concert while recording Caress of Steel, and almost quit making the album. I, for one, am very glad they didn't!
60. The "rap" in "Roll the Bones". Sit back, relax, get busy with the facts...
59. Gene Simmons thought they weren't into women because they didn't want to party with KISS. True story!
58. They listed their baseball positions in the liner notes for Signals.
57. Neil wrote lyrics to a song using only anagrams. The song is called "Anagram (For Mongo)", and is on the album Presto.
56. They thanked themselves in the liner notes for Hemispheres. Listed as Dirk, Lerxst, and Pratt, ofc!
55. They would challenge themselves to write last-minute songs. Results of this experiment include "Hand Over Fist" from Presto, and "Malignant Narcissism" from Snakes and Arrows.
54. The mere existence of "A Passage to Bangkok". I wonder what their thought process was to put a song about smoking weed around the world after a 20-minute long dystopian prog rock epic...
53. "La Villa Strangiato". Just... everything about it.
52. The kimonos. You know the ones!
51. Their nicknames for each other!! (see above)
50. They had the second-longest stable line up in rock music! The only ones with a longer stable line up was ZZ Top.
49. They had a 40-year career! Even longer if you include pre-Neil and their adventures since the R40 tour.
48. The synth era. I unapologetically love 80s Rush, especially Grace Under Pressure and Power Windows.
47. "The Necromancer" basically being self-insert Tolkien fanfic. I wonder who the "three travelers" are supposed to be... OH WAIT!
46. They're giant nerds. All prog bands are, but they are especially nerdy.
45. Hugh Syme's awesome album covers. He did every single one from Caress of Steel onwards, barring the front cover for Snakes and Arrows.
44. The 7/8 section in "Tom Sawyer". That was my first intermediate bass line! Thanks, Geddy!
43. They're Canadian icons. Unironically, they're the first thing that comes to mind when someone mentions "Canada" to me.
42. The horribly cheesy, terrible, but also really funny music video for "Time Stand Still". That song, btw, might be my favorite 80s Rush song, and is probably in my Top 5.
41. The triple-entendre pun of Moving Pictures. They're filming a movie (moving picture) of people moving paintings (moving pictures), while someone is getting moved by the scene (moving...pictures...).
40. They quote the 1812 Overture in the overture for "2112".
39. Geddy taught Les Claypool how to properly play "YYZ".
38. The Permanent Waves era glasses!
37. The opening of "Xanadu".
36. The weird stuff Geddy would have on his side of stage after he stopped using amps. This includes rotisserie chickens, washing machines, dryers, and popcorn machines.
35. "Music by Lee and Lifeson, Lyrics by Peart" on almost every single Rush song.
34. The ending of "Spirit of Radio". OF SALESMEN!!!
33. Their inside jokes. Example: The Bag.
32. They took French classes together, and began announcing their songs in French in Quebec.
31. The progressiveness of Counterparts. What other 40-year old rockstars were talking about healthy relationship boundaries and openly supporting gay people in 1993?
30. Their vaults are practically empty because they scrapped songs that weren't up to their standards. This is why we have no sub-par Rush material!
29. Choosing to end their careers with grace.
28. Ending the last show of their career with "Working Man", the song that got everything started.
27. "Dreamline"--"Learning that we're only immortal / For a limited time".
26. Geddy and Alex inducting Yes into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017.
25. Then, of course, Geddy playing "Roundabout" with Yes during their induction! (Unfortunately, he did not play his Rickenbacker :( )
24. No decisions were made regarding the band without it being unanimous.
23. "Closer to the Heart". To me, that song is like a musical representation of their friendship, and it always leaves me with a warm, fuzzy feeling after listening to it.
22. Neil's books. Ghost Rider, in particular helped me get through a rough time earlier this year.
21. Geddy's Big Beautiful Book of Bass. I love that thing, and I am looking forward to his memoir in November!!!
20. That incredible Rickenbacker. I know it hasn't been his main bass since the early 80s but...
19. All their other creative projects. Geddy and Alex have a solo album each, Alex is involved with Envy of None rn, and Neil had his blog.
18. All their other stage interactions.
17. "ATTENTION ALL PLANETS OF THE SOLAR FEDERATION! WE HAVE ASSUMED CONTROL!" -"2112". Just... all of "2112".
16. They got me into prog. I wouldn't have this blog right now if it weren't for Rush.
15. The Lifeson chord. The F#7add11 voicing that you can hear in so many of their songs (it's the opening to "Cygnus X-1 Book II: Hemispheres").
14. Neil's drumming. They call him The Professor for a reason!
13. Geddy's bass playing. And his singing. And playing keys. And... yeah, we would be here all day!
12. The Dinner with Rush video. I make daily references to this that no one notices...
11. "The measure of a life / is a measure of love and respect"- "The Garden". The final song on their final album, and possibly the most amazing closer of all time.
10. Their charity work. IIRC, this includes giving away the aforementioned rotisserie chickens, as well as various fundraisers.
9. Their constant strive to improve themselves. Including Geddy working with a vocal coach, Neil working with Freddie Gruber, and of course, disavowing that Ayn Rand shit.
8. They give me something to strive towards, both as a musician and as a person. If I could make records half as good as Rush, and handle the fame with half the grace that they did, I would consider myself well-accomplished.
7. Neil's lyrics inspired me to get back into writing.
6. They inspired me to become a musician, and to pursue a career in music. If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't have stayed in choir or picked up bass, and I would've never considered a career in audio technology.
5. Their music helped me bond with my dad.
4. Geddy talking about his family's story of survival during the Holocaust. I think that's really important to talk about.
3. Other Rush fans. Well, okay, some of them like to brag about how many concerts they've been to, or tend to be a little gate-keep, but most of them are really chill people.
2. Their music helped me get through the toughest times in my life. Without getting too personal, I even credit them with saving my life on multiple occasions.
However, what I admire about Rush, above all else...
1. Their friendship with each other.
Once again, happy birthday Geddy! Your music has inspired me in so many ways, and I wouldn’t be the person I am today without it.

The Freddie Mercury Connection
How unlikely that one of the most revered rockstars of all time was born in Zanzibar (an island off the eastern coast of Africa) to Indian immigrants, right? But, after all, how likely was it that Elvis Presley, with his smoldering looks, swiveling hips, and revolutionary musical talent, came out of a dirt-poor family of sharecroppers from Tupelo, Mississippi? I find the parallels between Elvis and Freddie Mercury fascinating, and there are many in my head. Ready Freddie?
Considered two of the best and most recognizable voices in popular music, Elvis and Freddie both had an incredible, almost unparalleled, stage presence, they came from an unlikely milieu unrelated to entertainment, and died in a heartbreaking way in their 40s. I find the way they are remembered and cherished very similar.
But let's start from the beginning! When he was at boarding school in Panchgani, near Bombay, in the late '50s, Freddie Mercury, then known as Farrokh Bulsara, formed his own band, with his schoolmates Bruce, Farang, Derrick, and Victory. They were called "The Hectics". Surprisingly, Freddie didn't sing, Bruce did. Freddie was too shy, so he played piano in the background. "We all wanted to be Elvis," Bruce remembers. The girls from another school screamed, "just like they'd heard girls the world over were beginning to do when faced with current idols". They played lots of Elvis, who was one of the rock 'n roll idols back then, but also Fats Domino and Little Richard, two of Freddie's favorite artists.
That shyness that relegated him to the background in school seems to have gone by the time we meet him again in England in the late '60s, singing with his blues band Ibex. He opened his shows with "Jailhouse Rock", a song he also performed with Queen many times. It allowed him to "indulge in gleeful histrionics, but for some time the rest of the group were unsure about Freddie's stage antics." How wrong they were! See for yourself in this live version from 1982.
youtube
In 1979, two years after Elvis' sudden death, Freddie wrote a tribute song to his idol, in the form of a rockabilly pastiche. It's one of Queen's most famous songs to this day: "Crazy Little Thing Called Love". He notoriously wrote it in 10 minutes while lounging in the bathroom. “I did that on the guitar, which I can't play for nuts," he said to Melody Maker, "and in one way it was quite a good thing because I was restricted, knowing only a few chords. It's a good discipline because I simply had to write within a small framework,” he continued. “I couldn't work through too many chords and because of that restriction I wrote a good song, I think.”
Everything, from the production to the lyrics is a call back to early rock 'n roll music. His voice on that track sounds so much like Elvis' that some people think it's an Elvis song. He said about it: “My voice does sound a bit like Elvis Presley’s on ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love’. That wasn’t something I was trying to do, naturally, it was pure coincidence. It’s all sung rather low, so then you soon come close to Elvis, especially with such a 50s-type song". Freddie even kicks it up a notch in the video by wearing a black leather suit (albeit with kneepads!) and styling his hair like Elvis did.
youtube
Aptly for a song with a rockabilly feel, "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" was Queen's first number-one hit in the States. I don't know if it was because she had heard that song, but Lisa Marie Presley, then only a child, said in an interview that she loved Queen's theatrics and that the first concert she attended was Queen in LA in the late '70s. She gave one of her father's scarves to Freddie. Even though he never met Elvis, Freddie cherished the scarf for the rest of his (short) life.
You can find my other Elvis connection posts at this link. I've written about Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, and Quentin Tarantino, among others.

Episode 305 - Talkin' Music with shineswithyou
Summary:
🎧 Find Talkin' Fanfic on your favorite podcast app. Or stream here!
Sara takes (kind of sort of) a break from talking fanfic and bandfic to talk about a different form of storytelling– music, and writing about music! @shineswithyou is a familiar face around Oasis and U2 tumblr, but what you might NOT know is that she has recently embarked on a writing journey of her own, with a substack blog about music and its place as the soundtrack of her own life.
Sara and shines talk about her blog, and the difficulty of “writing words about sounds”; how music is a language in and of itself capable of telling its own (and our own) stories.
Of COURSE we loop it back around to fanfiction and RPF (or, ‘real person fanfiction’), and how bandfic is, at its core, a pure form of love for the musical artist. Other talking points include: how awesome Bono is, and how we wish we could have been at Slane Castle in 2001; the perennial dysfunction of the Gallagher brothers; and the dichotomy of the U2 and Oasis fandoms.

Bts hyyh merch guide (pt 1)
I'm going to make a merch guide to each of the eras to help people collect but I figured i'd start with hyyh since it was one of my favorites ₊✩‧₊˚౨ৎ˚₊✩‧₊
The obvious (albums):
There's a light blue and light pink for pt 1 and dark blue with dark pink for pt2 which im sure we all know by now but there was also a limited Taiwan edition!
As of right now these are kind of hard to find; but without pc only cost ~$30. Outside of the photocard/postcard the only real difference of these is the inclusion of the lyrics in chinese plus more cds. These were released only for pt 1 in both the white/pink versions!
The photocards are going to COST YOU though, with a general range of $150-200
There also was 2 Japan kayo nekka versions that had a inclusion of a dvd too. On the dvd was just the run mv plus a photo gallery. PLEASE do not buy the listings of people selling the cd alone with no photocard for around 100, if you look harder on ebay theres many for closer to 40 or 50!!
these photocard prices are even worse than the last, normally being 200 to 400 from what ive seen. at least youll have a easier time finding listings for these (┬┬﹏┬┬)
DVDS:
The first dvd for hyyh was in 2015 and was released on 160223, this one only covers the Seoul concerts (which were the first 3). The first 2 dvds show the last day of the in Seoul concert, and the last one has 5 performances in Japan, VCR making film, prologue, rehearsals, practice making films and concert making films. The 2nd dvd also includes a VCR interview and talk about hyyh. All in all this is 346 minutes long :) If your lucky you can get this for $100 no pc but I would count on it being 200-370. The pc normally is around 100 too 😭
2016 live on stage epilogue dvd - This included of course film of the concert but also the poster and bridge shoot, md shooting film, concert practice and concert making film. you can find links to watch it for free with english subs here!
This dvd will cost around 170-200 and most (thankfully) have pc included. The pc alone will probablyyyy cost you around 60 even though ive seen ones way lower (you have to just look hard).
Theres also a blue ray version for around 95-160 (originally sold for $53.78) This one I THINK has the same stuff on it but its only in 2 dvds. I really cant tell if the postcards were a pre order benefit or not plus if it came as a set or random. Theres barely any listings for these but they only go for like $30 each (its like a breath of fresh air typing a price that low)
2016 BTS LIVE Kayo Nenka on stage epilogue Japan Edition Deluxe Edition DVD - this was released on January 18, 2017 so you should notttt be spending anywhere near as much (id guess 60-90?) This comes with 2 discs, the limited edition has a 132 page photobook and has bluray plus dvd but the regular just has the bluray no photobook. There is also a regular version with just dvd. These ones are the regular:
The regular is really hard to find nowadays but I think the general price range is 50-80??
Concert merch:
This hoodie only came in one size, Im not too sure the price of the zip up but the normal hoodie for the epilogue was $30.42 so we can assume it was about the same. nowadays expect to pay 200-600 for it LMAO
The shirt came in medium and large, i cant find any pricing info or current listings for this but i would assume it would be in the hundreds. The problem is theres so many unofficial shirts with this pattern being sold so it drowns out all the official listings. you MIGHT have luck getting this on some old instagram or tumblr account though!
one size beanie- current cost is around $200 but older accounts on twitter or tumblr sell for $45. yall im gonna be honest I cant find the post for the 2015 tour merch for the LIFE of me so im not going to know any original prices
bandana 600x600- GOOD LUCK BUYING THIS THING only place i can find listings is carousell which were all really cheap (~$15) but then again they are old listings.
I cannot find these damn socks ANYYYYWHERE on the face of the internet. your guess is as good as mine chat
pickets- very few listings of these out here but they are only like $70! (crazy if you remember people sell love yourself ones for 50 and 60) BUT you can 100% find listings for way lower (around 20 or 30) they are just rare
program book- these are only 40-60
this is going to be more like $200 for a set of just one members, its way easier to find the 2016 ones
photo set- there was multiple sets of these (not sure how many IM SORRY) ; one goes for about 100
I reached the max for pictures on here so go to pt 2!! i hope this guide helps you guys ⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝♡

I hope I'm not coming off as rude or too nosy, but I am curious -- how do you afford to buy all the perfumes that you do??
Hi 🍓! Perfumery is almost my only hobby that costs money. In other words, I pay for only one streaming service, I don’t buy or play video games, I rarely go out to eat, I don’t party or go drinking, I don’t buy painting or craft supplies, I don’t travel on my own or go to concerts etc. Most of the money that I spend on non-essentials I spend on books or perfume. In this context, I’m not sure whether I even spend more than the average gamer or craftsperson would on their hobby. Apart from that, I don’t buy most of the perfume I talk about. For the most part, my interest in perfumery will result in me sniffing my way around perfume shops without buying anything at all. If I do end up buying something, it’s usually the result of much consideration.
On that note: a piece of advice. Always, always check trustworthy(!) perfume websites for discounts etc. Where I live, that’s mainly Flaconi, Douglas, Perfumedreams, Galeria. The differences in pricing can be 50€ and more. I’ve become an expert, switching between multiple sites, tracking sale events etc. Most expensive or niche brands offer discovery sets with discounts, too. In most cases, the discovery set is more than enough to sate me, so the lure of “spend 40€ on 5x1.5ml and get 40€ off of this 250€ perfume” doesn’t end up being relevant for me — that IS a good deal if you do end up loving a fragrance, however.
In short: I afford my perfumes because I don’t buy that many, and I buy little else. But I understand the question, it sounds so prestigious a hobby. In the end, it’s a hobby like all the others — you could spends thousands at a time, buying batches of expensive niche perfumes that are hyped on social media. Just like you can buy endless extension packs for games or get a fifth set of glittering crochet hooks. You don’t have to go that route to enjoy yourself, however :)
#I’m on the app rn but later I’ll put how much I spent this year so far#I think it’s about 100€. so I mean — it’s not that much quite frankly#I Hope the answer didn’t sound rude! I’m just trying to explain :)#and I do wonder sometimes how much other people are spending on their hobbies#recently I’ve also been thinking about books and libraries again#in a sense of ‘this is such a great way to read all the trashy or contemporary books I want without buying them?!’#groundbreaking haha#I used to only read library books btw#I’ve only really started buying books in the last decade which I’m very thankful about#would NOT have liked to have all my youth books lying around

Belated fan report Brussels 4.8.2023
Even though I already showed the most important thing with my shark, I still want to share some other stuff.
First of all we had so much luck with the weather compared to the 5th. And I personally was lucky that i was able to get all of my balloons and the pump inside. I think I had about 40 or 50 balloons with hearts and some with sharks printed on them. I also had one big shark that actually needs to be filled with helium so I had to fill it with an air pump. I sat on the floor and pumped air into one balloon after the other and noticed that people around my started smiling and laughing. I just said: sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. So if you see videos from the 4th and there are heart balloons, they are probably all from me 🎈
During the show i sometimes held the other shark balloon in the air and i think at least till saw it once. As usual i was standing in front of paul and everytime he looked into the crowd i waved at him. Unfortunately he was still wearing his fancy glasses so i dont know if he actually looked at me. But at least he smiled. When schneider was randomly sitting in front of his drumkit i was screaming his name and he made a heart symbol with his hands - oh what a feeling.
And yes that was my last concert. It was a perfect ending for me since i managed to throw something into flakes boat and even met him the day after in the city. I hope it is not the end of everything but if it is, I was at least able to say bye to them properly.

This is the first all-Russian interview they've done in ages. (I still don't feel like I can conclusively answer the question of who feels comfortable speaking Russian to whom, and when, and for what purpose; I wish I did.) And in the meantime LLM language translation capabilities have developed to the point that you can ask YouTube to not only generate Russian subtitles, but translate those subtitles on the fly, and not get gibberish.
To be clear: the result isn't nearly as far from gibberish as we would like. I'd say the machine-generated subtitles can get you 20-30% of the way to actual comprehension. Which is a ways off from actually being able to understand them, and also, nevertheless, a huge step up from zero.
Machine-generated translation of the timestamps:
0:00 - start 00:59 - where did you come from for the Ninety One interview 01:27 - Alem what is happening in Kazakhstan Dauysy 02:00 - about children at "Kazakhstan Dauysy" 06:35 - about the new album 18:30 - courses on the fulfillment of desires from Zaq 19:55 - about the development of the festival industry 23:00 - about popularity and fans 23:40 - about the concerts of Beyoncé, The Weeknd, Maroon 5 26:47 - about the cancellation of the performance of Say Mo and unscrupulous organizers 27:31 - about responsibility to the fans, about communication with the organizers 29:31 - about contemporary artists 31:50 - about Kazakh rap, about the cool sound of the language 35:00 - about beefs and battles of rappers 40:44 - about creating your own label 41:31 - Bala about the second wind in creativity thanks to dancing 43:18 - Bala on ideas for creating dance battles 45:25 - Zaq is the winner of the International Russian Language Olympiad 51:10 - about critical thinking 55.30– Kazakhstan - the country of instant karma 58:00 - about stress, love and acceptance 59:30 - about transforming yourself 1:05:10 - rules of life
I continue to be grateful to Kazakhstani interviewers (in whatever language) and their ongoing allergy to simple filler questions.
I did listen to / attempt to read the subtitles of the section about Gap, since I'm still thinking about the album -- yes, we're well past "thinking" and into "overthinking" at this point, but one, that's what I do, and two, even if you take out the translation difficulties I'm not sure they're being crystal clear about the album goals and their motivations. At one point ZaQ says something about the Gap era not starting or ending with this album; at another he says something about there being songs that they wanted to release in 2018 (I feel a little more confident with these quotes, as they dovetail with translations the lovely Sara has made independently). But going back to any songs they created in 2018 would have been difficult, as they would have had to strip out AZ's planned parts, no? Tying Gap into Dopamine explains some parts of the pre-album symbolism-fest (specifically, all the references to "Why'm"; in fact I've started thinking about "Jur Mapelep" as a sequel to "Why'm") but doesn't explain why they referenced their 2091 concept, which postdates Dopamine (and which I never got fully explained to me, to be honest), in the "Biz" music video.
I haven't listened-to-slash-read the rest of the interview; I suspect from 51 minutes on the distance between their actual words and Google Translate's renditions of such will frustrate me more than teach me anything. But if something particularly striking emerges I'll come back and let you know.

it’s not just rental stores either. if there’s no physical version of a film or tv show to acquire, then libraries are trapped in the same IP-licensing hell that all other streaming media is. the kanopy access i’m granted through the seattle public library lets me watch three (3) entire movies per month. three! if you’ve got a college library account i think you get ten. it’s the same with books. last summer i wanted to get into ursula k leguin, only to discover that not only were all the physical copies of her books checked out and back-reserved for months, their ebooks were all checked out too! ebooks! the seattle public library ran out of ebooks!!!!!! a digital file that can be reproduced infinitely at zero cost made arbitrarily scarce because greedy publishers want to give us as few legal ways to read stuff for free or at low cost when we could be buying them at full msrp instead. which creates more waste than the alternative, inevitably traps us in digital ecosystems which WILL be destroyed and replaced wholesale within the decade. oh and where do people buy most of their books today? oh amazon, oh that’s funny, that’s a cute coincidence.
but let us not forget that blockbuster itself was an invasive corporate parasite that drove countless independent video stores into bankruptcy using the very same business model that defines tech companies today: get big on a national scale, make prices unreasonably cheap and just eat the losses, choke out all the competition, and then hope that when it comes time to actually be profitable that they’ll just be too big to fail. unfortunately it turns out that what actually happens in this case is that when the competition is dead and you’ve stripmined every cuttable corner, your profit margins decline and you go bankrupt and now an entire industry is blown to smithereens. golly that does sound familiar! probably won’t happen with any other monopolies though, i mean what happened with blockbuster was sort of a fluke because usually the rate of profit only ever goes up! i think. i’ve only ever skimmed marx but i’m pretty sure that’s what he said
and this whole process exists in concert with the death of broadcast media and syndication. i’ve been a film nerd for a long time, i got it from my dad early on because we would watch reruns of hollywood schlock from the 40s and 50s together for hours. tv stations revived countless old undervalued media through rebroadcast. it’s a wonderful life is just one very famous example of a film that was generally disliked in its day but found an audience decades later through syndication. and yes, they did this because it was cheaper than producing new content to fill a 24/7 broadcast schedule (this was before they invented reality tv to scab for a striking writer’s guild), but it’s an undeniably more sustainable business model than what we have now. so much media today is produced for right now specifically. stranger things exists for social media, it exists to be talked about in the week of its release, it exists to bolster netflix’s name and capitalize on the very present-tense nostalgia for 80s aesthetics in an incredibly surface-level, conservative america friendly package that removes everything about the films it worships which once made those very films deeply transgressive and uncomfortable in an outsidery sort of way. and none of this even touches on the matter of how streaming media pays out infinitely less royalties for airing existing media (oh hey kind of like how spotify fucks over musicians, that’s another weird coincidence)
once a full season of streaming tv is dropped in a single day, yes, sure, hypothetically you can watch it again whenever you want. but do you? when new stuff shows up on the platform constantly, do you really go back and watch what you meant to watch earlier? doesn’t it feel like a waste of time to watch something that isn’t very immediately in the zeitgeist? so instead of recycling existing media, using the hypothetically infinite reproduceability of digital media to give a new generation of young people unprecedented access to classic films and tv shows, evolving and expanding the framing techniques that made turner classic movies so charming, they’ve opted to infinitely devalue everything which does not obviously meet the metrics of virality in an algorithm they literally paid a guy with a degree in money making to invent out of thin air. if an executive cannot see the immediate obvious shareholder-related value of something, they can choose to throw it in the trash and we’re just stuck with that decision. execs at hbo discovery can indefinitely memoryhole infinity train because it isn’t a story to them, it isn’t art, it is private property. and in the eyes of the government, that gives them every right to put it in a vault forever if they so desire. at least until it passes into the public domain in, oh, i don’t know, eighty years? thanks for that one disney. oh shit, another monopoly! it’s so funny how we keep running into those
physical media is a license that cannot be revoked. a corporation can’t invalidate it, take it away from you, make you pay for it again (except by inventing new technologies that utilize a different storage/playback technology), or keep it out of libraries. they only ever tolerated this lack of control over their ~~~intellectual property~~~ in the past because they had no alternative. but now, in the age of infinite digital reproduction, artificial scarcity is more valuable than ever. isn’t it funny that the overwhelming media narrative about physical media over the last fifteen years or so has been that it’s dying? always it’s dying. bookstores are dying, rental stores are dying, comic stores are dying. and yet the cause is never actually consumer habits, but market capture and price-fixing by unrestrained and totally unmonitored corporate capitalists. most everyone i talk to prefers reading physical books if given a choice. everyone loves vinyl and tapes despite the fact that they universally sound like shit! even streaming die-hards have copies of their favorite movies on discs.
physical media isn’t dying. corporations are deliberately killing it to bolster their bottom line.
i will never be against piracy ever but i also need physical media to remain

Scott Williams [Soilent Green]
James Scott Williams was born on August 18th, 1966. His parents were Patricia Diamond Williams, and James Williams Jr.. He had a sister, named Kim. Not much else is known about his life, or anything from when he was growing up, at least. Once source states that he was a lifelong resident of Gretna, Louisiana.
At some point, Scott gained an interest in music, and began playing bass. He was in the band ‘New Religion’ playing bass from 1989-1991. The band only seemed to have lasted between those years, with a demo in ‘89, and ‘91 being released, both on cassette.
At some unknown period of time, Scott was in a band with Donovan Punch, and Punch’s girlfriend, called PCP. The band was later renamed ‘Bum Freakin In Egypt’. There doesn’t seem to be any info on this band either, at least on the metal archives.
In 1992, Scott joined Soilent Green as their new bassist. He is first credited with having played on the 1995 split album, ‘Green Vegetable Matter/Soilent Green’. He played on all of Soilent Green’s released from 1995-2001, and is credited with also appearing on the 2002 split album, of Soilent Green and Eyehategod. Most sources state that Scott left Soilent Green in the 2001-02 era, though none had ever said why; at least, none from that time period, that could still be found today.
On April 26th, 2004, Scott was murdered by his roommate in a murder-suicide. The details of this are scant, and some sources and old forum posts have implied that Scott and his roommate were romantic partners.
Scott had went to a restaurant in Gretna, Louisiana, with his partner Tracey Terry, on what is recalled as a Monday night. The two men had moved in with Scott’s mother of the 600 block on Bannerwood Drive area two months before.
The two men, Tracey and Scott, had-had dinner with two other men that night, and the unnamed men stated that Tracey Terry left the restaurant angry because Scott had been talking to another person. The unnamed men brought Scott home shortly afterwards, implying that Tracey Terry had stranded Scott without a way home.
At about 11:50 pm, Tracey Terry shot Scott Williams in the head with a .38 caliber revolver. Terry then pointed the gun on himself, committing suicide.
Scott’s mother heard a loud noise, and found her son bleeding from the head. When deputies arrived later, they found Tracey Terry with a self inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.
Neighbors stated that they never heard any arguments or disturbances, with one stating that they were very quiet at the Williams’ household.
Scott Williams was 37 years old at the times of his death. A funeral was held for him on April 30th, 2004. His internment was private.
I don’t know much of anything on Tracey Terry, only that he was 40 years old at the time of the murder. I could not find any find a grave page, or obituary on him, which I assume is because of Louisiana’s privacy laws.
A benefit show was held for Scott on June 18th, 2004, with bands like Goatwhore, Valume Nob, Outlaw Order, Rat in The Bucket, and Soilent Green performing, to help with the funeral costs. Apparently, this was the first show that Zack Simmons played with Goatwhore.
On July 21st, 2004, an article from lambgoat posted an update about the benefit concert. It stated at quote from the Soilent Green website, “First off, we would like to thank everyone that came out on Friday, June 18th, for the benefit show of the late Scott Williams. The show raised $2900, and was a huge success. The money helped Scott’s family for the funeral costs.” A PO box was listed where users could donate to the Scott Williams fund, though I am unsure if it is still in use anymore.
Scott Williams does not seem to have a find a grave page, at least when I checked in 2023.

Who Is MrBeast And How He Started Beast Burger?
Jimmy Donaldson (also known as MrBeast) is an American YouTuber, philanthropist, and businessman. He started making YouTube videos in 2012, at the age of 13. In the early days, he was making “let’s play” videos but he didn’t get his big break until 2017 when he started making his “counting to 100,000” videos. Since then, he was constantly growing on YouTube with his crew. It seems like there is no one stopping him when it comes to views and subscribers. Today, his channel has over 100 million subscribers and on average, his every video gets over 40-50 million views. A lot of his videos have also crossed the 100 million views mark. A lot of his content is inspired by philanthropical acts where he is giving away money, car, or food to those in need. Jimmy always states that his goal is to make this world a better place by helping others. That’s why when he saw that the restaurants are struggling during the Covid-19 crises, he started his own restaurant chain known as MrBeast Burger. MrBeast Burger is a virtual delivery-only fast food restaurant chain that MrBeast started in partnership with Virtual Dining Concepts, LLC in December 2019. The brand has been serving over 900 locations in America, Europe, the UK, and Canada. And with the growing popularity of Jimmy all over the world, MrBeast Burger also has plans to expand in more locations in the world. But the way how this chain operates is very different from other competitors in the market. Just like his unique content, MrBeast has somehow introduced the concept of drop shipping in the restaurant industry. With the help of Virtual Dining Concepts, LLC, he came up with 600 cloud kitchens overnight. For those of you who don’t know what a cloud kitchen is? Cloud Kitchen (also known as Ghost Kitchen) is an affordable business model where a rented-out kitchen is being used to produce food for a single or a bunch of restaurants. The food is then delivered online through an aggregator. With the help of this concept of cloud kitchens, MrBeast has collaborated with my small-scale businesses to help them have more customers because of his own popularity. He started renting out kitchens with other restaurants and started having their workforce work for his brand. The way he launched his brand was also very unique. He opened a physical store and gave away free burgers to his fans. But with free burgers, he also gave away thousands of dollars, iPads, and even a car. He made a video and uploaded it on YouTube and Boom! The video got more than 50 million views. This meant that MrBeast has managed to spread its brand to more than 50 million people with just one video. Another thing that helped him grow his business is the constant support from other influencers and YouTubers. In less than a year, Beast Burger has grown from 600 stores to over 900 stores. He initially started in America, but now, his brand (MrBeast Burger) has grown to different places like the UK, Europe, and Canada. He is continuously doing things to improve his fast-food brand and to expand in other major parts of the world. Seek out the detailed catalog of MrBeast Burger menu with prices below. The menu items will be same but the prices can vary as per the nearest location of the outlet.
MrBeast Burger Menu With Prices
Beast style, chandler style, chris style, and karl’s deluxe burgers are the star items on the menu and are a must-try. If you are not particularly feeling burgers, you can also opt for sandwiches. You can choose from Karl’s grilled cheese, crispy chicken tender, and the special nashville hot chicken tender sandwiches. A burger without fries just sounds like PBJ sandwich without jelly. MrBeast understands that well. That’s why he offers two kinds of fries to go with your burger; beast style and crinkle fries. Their fries are typically seasoned with paprika, cayenne, garlic, sugar, and a hint of lime. All the flavors pair well along and are delightful. They also offer ‘light on the pocket’ combos, so you can have a burger-fries-coke combo without burning a hole in your pocket. There are two options for you to choose from; beast style burger combo and chicken sandwich combo. Want to finish with something sweet? Buy yourself some chocolate chip cookies from the menu. Now, that’s what I call a hearty meal. With affordable prices, MrBeast Burger’s meals are must-have. What People Say About MrBeast Burger | My Honest Review
Video by Matt Stonie When MrBeast launched MrBeast Burger, it made a dent in the fast-food industry. MrBeast, with his crew, opened more than 600 virtual kitchens overnight and the fast-food industry has never seen anything like this before. After the brand was launched, it received a mixed bag of reviews. Many people and influencers like Logan Paul and Reviewbrah liked the burgers. But on the other hand, some people did not like the product that MrBeast came up with. Some people said that the Beast Burger is better than brands like Burger King, and some said the menu needs more options. I download the Beast Burger app and ordered a chicken sandwich, beast-style burger, fries, and a cookie. I received my order within 10 minutes. First, I had the beast-style burger. It is a standard burger that comes with 2 or 3 seasoned crispy beef patties, American cheese, pickles, mustard, fries, onions, ketchup, and mayonnaise. You can see everything inside the burger from the side and the best part for me was that it was not that much saucy. And the burger also tasted good. I saw some concerns that the people’s burger had some undercooked beef, but that didn’t happen with me. The beef patties were juicy, tender, properly cooked, and were full of flavors. Beast style burger is their signature item and for me, it lived up to the expectations. Now was the turn of the chicken sandwich. It has a big piece of chicken tender in it accompanied with some lettuce, pickles, and mayonnaise. In terms of taste, it was fine, just like an average chicken sandwich. The chicken could be more tender but it was ok. I also had some seasoned fries and the fries were good. It gives you a taste of lime and some spice, which is insane to me. I’ve had fries many times not quite like this one. At last, I also ordered a standard chocolate cookie that is bigger than a standard cookie. The cookie I received was not hot or seemed oven-fresh but it was still soft and tasted good. My overall experience of the MrBeast Burger was decent. All of the things that I had could be improved but that doesn’t mean that they were bad. There is always a scope of improvement and for a new brand like this that is growing rapidly, I think MrBeast and his team will take some charge to improve these little things to make everything close to perfect.
